Testimonials

Sonja and Raymond worked for us for several weeks in the beginning of 2020 in the lead up and during the TP52 Super Series event in Cape Town.
Raymond was the rigger and shore crew for one of our boats, while Sonja ran the entire team logistics for both boats, nearly 40 people.
Raymond was responsible not only for the making and maintenance of all rope work needed for the boat but was also part of the shore crew getting the boat race ready every morning and fixed when necessary after sailing. He was also always on stand by on the chase boat for on the water system repair works between races. He always fulfilled this duty in a fast and efficient manor while being under immense pressure and time constraints.

Sonja was responsible for both team’s onshore needs from hotel Check-in to food and clothing supplies every day and last minute requests for medicine , airport transfers or help to fetch needed spare parts for the boats. This is often an underestimated position in teams as it takes a lot of dedication and hours in the day to this job well.

Both of them full filled their duties with great professionalism and a lot of heart. even during stressful situations they stayed in control and always did their best for the boats and the team.
It was a pleasure to work with Raymond and Sonja and we can only recommend their services.

Rope Monkeys handled all aspects of rigging the Cheekee Monkee, an all carbon 14+ meter racer/ cruiser Farrier F-45RC catamaran. He joined the team to join and assemble the 21.r meter tall, High modulus spreaderless carbon wing mast from Souther Spars. EC3 and EC6 standing rigging from future fibres, bulk lines from Sampson for running rigging and some special products and tricks from the Rope Monkey himself! Owner operator, rigger and production

“I am South African and grew up around boats. I started as a sail-makers apprentice for a year and a half then moved on to boat building. Where I focused on Carbon composites and high performance and racing boats. I was a shore crew boat builder in the 08/09 Volvo Ocean Race. After which I used my sailing knowledge to move onto Rigging as the next logical step in improving and broadening my experience. I soon found myself in the position of department manager at a major yacht builder specialising in Catamarans. After a few years I moved on to establish my own rigging and yachting service. And here we are.” - Raymond

The creative one.

Sonja

“I am from a beautiful island called ‘Taiwan’.

My journey in the yachting industry began when I was hired as a project leader of a 75ft production, mono-hull power yacht project. From parts sourcing, to the production scheduling, also building a bridge between each department of the company to the clients, marketing, to boat show and warranty services. My job was basically everything you could think of during the build.

I was then privileged enough to be able to consult to one of the oldest shipyards located in Taipei. To set up their yacht club and yacht services. I have learnt that I can take on any of the diverse challenges in this industry. And yes, it won’t be any easier but I would not change a thing! We are now here to play our strengths, to bring a better service, honesty and quality.”
